How to use it

1

Hold Shift and point

Rest the pointer on a Chinese word. The card shows after 0.3 seconds.

2

Listen or open the entry

Move into the card to play a recording or open the full entry. The pin keeps it open; Esc closes it.

3

Switch it off per site

The toolbar button turns lookup off for one site, or everywhere. Its settings add hover without Shift, a longer delay, a dark theme and larger text.

What is in it

The longest word

北京大学 is one word, not 北京 and 大学, even when the page styles the two halves differently.

Traditional characters

學習 finds 学习.

Up to three readings

行 shows xíng and háng.

Strict sites

Recordings play on GitHub and other sites that block outside audio, because the extension plays them, not the page.

Where it does not work

  • Browser pages and extension stores
  • The browser’s own PDF viewer
  • Text drawn on a canvas, such as Google Docs
  • Text in images or inside text boxes

Privacy

The extension does not collect or send what you read. Its settings stay in your browser. Recordings come from cdn.chinesedict.com when you press play.
