Written by the pinyin spelling rules: a capital at the start of each sentence, names in parts (北京大学 Běijīng Dàxué), 了 and 着 joined to the word before (买了 mǎile) unless 了 ends the sentence. 2个 is read liǎng gè, 1998年 yī jiǔ jiǔ bā nián.
Each word gets its dictionary reading, so 银行 is yínháng and 行走 is xíngzǒu. 一 and 不 keep their own tones (不是 is bùshì, said búshì); the changes heard in speech are not written.
